Getting an E-ZPass is easier than you might think. Automotive Avenues has the details! You can visit the E-ZPass website for the state in which you reside, and then complete an application. You can have up to four tags per individual account, and any vehicles on the account will need to be privately leased or owned (not commercially owned).
To set up an account, you’ll need to provide your payment information whether you’re paying by check, cash, or card. Depending on your state, you might need to make a minimum deposit, which varies by state.
E-ZPass pays tolls automatically as you pass through a toll, so you don’t have to stop and pay. This is an electronic toll collection (ETC) system, so you don’t have to pay in cash, tokens, or tickets. The tag is read via an antenna at the booth, allowing drivers to simply drive through the toll station without stopping. Then, the toll is automatically withdrawn from the funds in your E-ZPass account.

Whenever you use a toll lane, the fee is deducted from your E-ZPass account. So, the cost of your E-ZPass will vary depending on how often you’re passing through toll stations. Interstate toll roads usually cost about 6 cents per mile, while non-interstate tolls cost about 13 cents per mile. And, again, a minimum deposit is required when you open your E-ZPass account, so you can start using it right away.
